Comment Moderation?

Submitted by kevinb on February 20, 2006 - 6:49pm.

I think seenonslash.com has great potential, with some fixes. I think the ability to moderate comments (think bash.org, +/-) would be a great help. Then the truly funny/insightful/interesting stuff would start bubbling up to the top, and leaving the "somewhat" funny/insightful/interesting down at the bottom. A moderation system would definitely increase the quality of the site, at least the front page. It would also help keep the content organized, instead of having to go through some pages of comments to find the gems.

In a somewhat related note, I think the "first user to post 10 comments gets a free blog" or whatever is definitely not helping put the quality stuff first, even if that is not the goal for many of the people who come here.

Just a suggestion,
Kevin

Moderation plans

Thanks Kevin. A moderation system is definitely in the works. It was obvious from the start this is a necessary feature.

I've been promoting the best posts to the front page myself. The free blogs got quite a few people to sign up and submit /. comments. I've taken only the best and promoted them to the front page. It was only a short-term promotion to draw more people to submit comments... and it worked!
